Part Time Poker Exclusive: Poker Whiteboard beta testing for new poker site to launch in late summer. Sign up through PTP and get exclusive perks - no deposit needed.

Poker Whiteboard, the place-holder brand for a new poker site slated to launch in June, is seeking beta testers. Beta testing is a common practice for software products and online services, but is often under utilized by new poker rooms. Testers will be rewarded with cash and exclusive perks like a higher rakeback rate when the site opens. Part Time Poker is one of only a few affiliates with this exclusive offer.

Who are these guys?
The PWB team consists of management employees of existing large online poker rooms who decided to make a run at the industry. With strong funding and some celebrity surprises in store, they are one of the few rooms that may actually be able to crack the market. Their interest in community testing and feedback will help their chances.

What is expected of beta testers?
Beta testers will be asked to participate in play money tournaments and cash games and report bugs. Testers can participate as much or as little as they would like; there is no minimum time commitment.

Whats in it for beta testers?
Aha! The good part…While all games will be play money, testers will gain status by playing, winning, and referring friends to the beta testing program. Status will earn testers:

Entry into freerolls. There will be one $1,500 freeroll, plus $100 nightly freerolls and more. Cash won will be available in your account when the site launches.

A chance to win a $5,000 WSOP Package.

A higher rakeback rate upon site launch.

A chance to win a custom avatar upon site launch.

Did we mention the higher rakeback rate that will be available to beta testers?

How can I get involved?
It’s easy, follow these steps and sign up via Part Time Poker. You’ll be guided through the sign up process and will be greeted by a dashboard at Poker Whiteboard that will allow you to track your status advancements.

Be certain to follow the steps and submit your name to PTP to get the preferential rakeback rate when the room launches. We’ve got your back on this one, but we need your account name to make it happen.

How many home poker games played across the world are actually dealer dealt? It is nearly an impossible question to answer due to the lack of any reliable statistics on home poker but I would estimate that over 95% are dealt by players themselves. However, Dial a Dealer, a company that re-launched a few weeks ago is doing their best to change that statistic.

Dial a Dealer allows you to search for poker and casino dealers that are available for hire in your local area. The site is really simple to use and all a user has to do is enter their location and up pops the profiles of all available dealers.

Why do people not ever hire poker dealers for their home games? After all, it is an appealing prospect to have an experienced dealer to come in and run your home game. It speeds up the play, allows a player to focus on their game and avoid any arguments about poker etiquette. Matt Alford (founder of Dial a Dealer) states that the main reason is the fact that the cost of hiring a freelance dealer does not compare favourably with the average pot size of most home poker games. A second reason is the fact that most people do not know any dealers. And if you don’t know any dealers, where do you turn to? Most people will contact a casino night hire company. And when you get a middleman involved, you can be guaranteed that the price goes up by 50%.

Will Dial a Dealer solve those problems? By connecting dealers directly with home poker games, the punter should certainly dramatically reduce the cost of hiring a dealer for their next home game. There are dealers on site at the moment listing their services at between £10 and £30 and hour, which although not quite as economical as a card room, it does make having a dealer at your home game a feasible possibility.

So we know the players can benefit, what opportunities does the service present for the dealers? Listing on the site and putting yourself in front of thousands of potential customers will set a croupier back $15 (£10) a month. It does seem a lot, but it looks more favourable when you think that all a dealer needs to do is obtain 1 job a year until he hits breakeven.

Dealers are certainly taking the bait in the UK, with 25 dealers already having registered. The company is open to dealer registrations from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

Rake is how online poker sites make their money. Unlike casino games, poker sites do not have a house advantage. Instead of a house edge, poker sites take a percentage of each pot. This is known as the rake. The rake is usually five or ten percent, and typically this adds up to about three or four dollars per pot.

The Rakeback Return

Online poker sites do not “comp” players free buffets or hotel rooms as casinos do, but many sites offer rakeback. Poker sites offer rakeback percentages as incentives to attract new players to sign up with their site. The rakeback rate varies from site to site and there are multiple methods used to determine how the rakeback is calculated. Then at the end of each month, the rakeback percentage is refunded to the player’s account. The different methods of calculating rakeback benefit different playing styles. If you have cashed in on a sign up bonus with your present site, you will likely have to move to a new site to take advantage of a rakeback offer, and it could be a very lucrative venture.

The Contributed Method Explained

With the contributed rake method, the rakeback return is determined by the amount each player individually contributes to the rake. When you are playing in a $20 pot with a five percent rake, $1 is raked from the pot. If your personal contribution to the pot is $5, or 25 percent of the pot, then your return will be 25 cents or 25 percent of the rake. At the end of the month, your accumulated rakeback is tallied and deposited in your poker account. The biggest site using this method is Full Tilt rakeback.

Cashing in With Contributed Rakeback

Contributed rakeback is an easy choice if you are a frequent player who likes to participate in a lot of hands. The contributed rakeback method is almost a reward for betting so frequently. Tight players who choose their hands with extreme caution will not benefit from contributed rakeback as extensively as those who play every other hand. Players who wait for the perfect hand will be better off looking into dealt rakeback, but a loose player can improve their win rate considerably if they are taking advantage of a contributed rakeback.

We discuss basic poker terms and their meanings in this article

When you first start thinking about playing poker it can feel like everyone knows more than you. We’ve put together a list of some of the terms you might come across and what they mean so you won’t have to feel quite such a novice when you are first learning to play.

Bluff – when a person pretends to have better cards than they do and plays and bids as if they have.

Hand – the cards dealt to you, and the cards that you play using. So a complete hand will include cards that are visible only to you and others dealt face up which are visible to everyone.

Fold – to decide that your hand isn’t good enough and to stop playing that round.

Community cards – Cards which are placed face up on the table during a deal, and which all players in the game can use to help make their final hand.

Pot – the money which is bet by players in the game. This is the money which the winner of the round will take.

Chips – the round pieces which players are given in exchange for cash money before a game begins. Each chip represents a fixed amount of money.

Ante – a fixed amount that all players have to place in the pot. Antes are only used in some variants of poker.

Dead Money – money put into the pot by players who have folded.

Small blind – a small bet placed by the first player in a game where there is no ante. The amount is normally half of the amount that will be the size of the minimum bet on the first betting round.

Big blind – a blind bet which is normally a raise of an earlier blind called the small blind. In poker with limits set the big blind is normally the size of the minimum bet on the first round of betting.

Call/See – to put the minimum bet necessary into the pot to allow you to continue playing.

Raise – to raise the amount of money being played into the pot.

Hole – these are the cards which are dealt into your hand at the beginning – they are the cards which are dealt face down.

Flop – in Hold’em poker these are the first three community cards which are dealt at the same time.

Pot Limit – A game where the maximum bet is set by the size of the pot at the time.

Pot Odds – The amount of money in the pot at the time divided by the amount of money you must bet in order to call. Players often use this to decide if a pot offers enough reward to make it worthwhile to call.

River – the last card dealt in a hand of Hold’em or Stud poker.

Wild Card – A joker or other card chosen by agreement by the players (or by the dealer) as a card which can be used to represent any other card desired.

House – the casino or poker room hosting the event.

Rake – An amount of money taken from the pot and given to the house. Usually a percentage of the pot up to a maximum amount.

Table Charge / Seat Fee – a fee paid periodically by all players at the table – usually set as every half an hour or hour, and taken where the house doesn’t take a rake.

888 Poker is a great place for both serious and casual poker players. For many years, 888 Poker was a single-table only online poker site. Moving with the times, 888.com eventually allowed those who wanted to play multiple tables at once the chance to do so. Fortunately for beginners, the friendly roots of the site means that 888 Poker is still a very good place to learn the game.

Beginners will find that playing in one of the low stakes rooms is a friendly and enjoyable experience. I’d recommend that you play in a room that you can afford to spend a fair while in – especially in the early days. It is very demoralizing to run out of money and have to leave a table, so playing at a table you can afford to spend some time in will ensure that you get used to the ups and downs of online poker.

Choose from a wide variety of online poker tournaments only from 888.com. Find a poker tournament that suits you and win large prizes in weekly events. 888.com always have online poker tournaments to keep you interested.

888.com is fast becoming the home of the best poker player around the world. A ton of success has been shared by lucky players through the years. If you want a chance at the big prize, read the stories of the most inspiring poker players and how 888.com helped them reach their dreams.
