After a strong start that propelled him into the leader position, Darvin Moon has faded a bit in heads up play at the final table of the 2009 WSOP and allowed Joe Cada to retake the momentum in the match – and the lead.

Moon came storming out of the gate with a variety of strong moves, mostly post-flop. That, combined with a few strong hands, allowed him to erase what had been a massive chip lead for Cada at the start. Cada looked a little off-balance, and Moon was playing with clear confidence.

Cada settled in after a bit, however, and took the reigns of the match by continuing to apply pressure to Moon preflop and by picking off one monster bluff by Moon that netted Cada over 20m. That, combined with a monster river bet by Cada that blew Moon off of a major pot, re-established Cada as the chip leader.

Cada seems reluctant to keep the pressure on Moon, perhaps wary of Moon’s tendency to shove a lot of chips in to smallish pots. That willingness to back away after stringing together may be something Cada regrets if he loses this match, as Moon seems to play much worse under pressure.
