PTP is out in Vegas, saying hello and donating money at various casinos to various people. The weather’s great, the fields are huge and the food is greasy and overpriced. Despite all that, we’re here with our updates, same as it ever was.
It’s also been a bit of a slow week for poker news, what with the WSOP dominating the headlines. After the big legislative push of a few weeks ago, everything seems to have calmed down - most likely a calm before the July 10th storm…

The new - finally, something in the humor section:
PPA Hires Phil Ivey to Stare at Congressmen
And, as usual, something new from John in the tournament strategy section
The Lowest Common Denominator.
It’s a busy month for us as we head out for Vegas and keep working on Neverbeg and other new projects. Thanks for stopping by, see you next week.

This week we turn back to the goal of stuffing the strategy sections, and we’ve got two entries to that end.
First, Vin chips in a nice article that takes some common sense advice for life and applies it to poker - small tips that, despite their obviousness, are still worth repeating. Here’s a slice of Life’s Cliches and Poker Tips
Hey Fellow players, I’m back. The folks at PTP asked me to work on some of the top poker tips and relay that information to our readership. “No problem,” I told my boss, “I’ll just jump on the net and get right on that.” and fired up the old computer. My next though was, “Uh-oh.”
I glanced over and saw the little information bar that informed me I was looking at items 1-10 of about 5,150,000 hits for “poker tips,” that took Google a whopping eight one hundredth’s of a second to generate. “Hmm,” I said to myself, “I have a feeling this could a pretty popular subject.” Once again, it appears I jumped off the diving board without looking down first (I hate when I do that) but the important part is to give it my best shot to scribble a little something that will be of help. Especially considering that the regular readership of PTP includes some of the finest poker players in the world today. That’s not a suck-up either folks, that is a fact. You can trust me on this; I’m a poker player.

We’ve also got another contribution from a member of Online Poker Staking site NeverBeg.com. if you’re looking to shake up your tournament poker game, check out this guide to Reraise Bluffs in No Limit:
I’m sure everyone has seen an idiot or two in their poker career that will reraise you all in and then show jack high after you fold. In general, these people will never get far in tournaments because they tend to bluff too often and don’t know when to bluff. However, reraise bluffing does work in many occasions. You just need to know when you should try to pull something like this off and consider the consequences. This technique is usually good for MTT or SNGs, although if there is a rather large sized pot in a cash game, don’t be afraid to reraise bluff. Furthermore, I would advise not to try this unless you are a middle stack. If you have more than 30 times the big blind or under 10, you should probably not be playing so aggressive. It is probably not worth all your chips if you’re low and definitely not worth risking your dominate chip stack by reraise bluffing in these situations. Also, this move is much more effective if you have a tight image.
So why should you reraise bluff? Because when you reraise, it means someone raised so the pot you are picking up has to be at least a decent size. Furthermore, not betting out first allows you to gain more information on your opponents.
Here’s the whole thing
Good luck at the WSOP if you’re there!
