2010 WSOP Changes

Expanding poker rooms and WSOP Bracelet redesigns are only a few things that players have to look forward to this summer.

Those were the highlights from this year’s media conference call where the poker press had the opportunity to grill the WSOP honchos about what’s in store for 2010. Full details follow.

With about 100,000 square foot now between the Grand Pavilion and  Amazon Room the Rio has expanded the amount of poker tables to 377, which is an increase of about 25% from last years size. There has also been an increase of number of feature tables from two to four.

Another change players will experience this summer will be how day 1s combine into day 2 for the main event. In previous years days 1a and 1b were combined into day 2a while players that made it through 1c and 1d went on to play day 2b. Starting this summer days 1a and 1c will make 2a while 1b and 1d will make up day 2b. This is being done to hopefully balance out the total number of players going into the day 2s.

2010 will also bring a new designer for the WSOP bracelets. Franck Muller, who designed the watch worn on the final table by 2009 WSOP ME champion Joe Cada, is the new designer. More details along with images of the design should be released in the next week or two.

Another focus for 2010 was to ensure that players going into day 2 of events have at least 12 hours worth of break between the end of play on day 1 and start of play on day 2.

For events that starting at noon players will play through 10 levels while events starting at 5:00 will play through 8 levels. The reason is to keep players healthy, awake, and playing at their best. On the average each of the preliminary events have 28 hours worth of play, not including breaks.
